Renegade Mindset Techniques (RMT) for Tennis Review
If you see a tennis professional tapping their face,
neck, wrists, or fingers while they’re playing, after reading Renegade Mindset Techniques for Tennis by Stephen Ladd, you’ll know what those players are doing.
E-Book Reviewed: Renegade Mindset Techniques (RMT) for Tennis by Stephen Ladd
My first reaction to RMT was along the lines of, ‘this is weird’. But, I stayed open-minded, tried the techniques, and was pleasantly surprised at how fast they work.
Before reading this book I’d heard of NLP, and heard of tapping, and hypnosis too, but I didn’t know to what extent professional athletes use these techniques to trick themselves into better mental capacity and better performance while they compete. This book shares some of those pro secrets.
I’ll cut to the chase and suggest that if you’re serious about your tennis, if you play for money, or if you play high level competition, then you’re going to love RMT.
In addition, if you’re a player who suffers choking, outbursts of anger, nerves, and negative self-talk, you should take a look at this.
Basically, Renegade Mindset Techniques are techniques that lead to mental and emotional balance on the court, specifically when you are under pressure in a match.
I’ve read a lot of books on the mental side of tennis that have helped me and my students get control over their mind when competing and practicing. Positive thinking and visualization are the repeated teachings of the great sports psychologists and coaches, and, RMT is a short-cut to getting these techniques to work for you quickly.
The book covers three main techniques:
Firstly the book starts with NLP, which in short is the science of what you think and what you say and how it effects your life and your behavior. Basically, the power of language and its effect on your beliefs.
You’ll learn how to ‘anchor’ yourself so you can put yourself into a peak state at any time, as well as how to let go of the past, re-set your mind, amongst other things.
Secondly, NLP links in with the next part of the book, which is tapping, or energy psychology, which is the short-cut to mind control. The Energy Psychology part of the book was my favorite part.
I tried it out myself and at first I felt really stupid doing it, but then, it worked! I was shocked and pleased at the ease of the technique and I have been experimenting with it off the tennis court too with great results (thanks Stephen)
Thirdly, the book ends with hypnosis, including four hypnosis audios. Personally I’m not a fan of hypnosis. However, I’ve heard of people who have undergone hypnosis and have seen incredible life changes come about. A friend of mine quit smoking after hypnosis, it changed her life, and she’s still grateful to this day.
With Renegade Mindset Techniques for Tennis e-book you’ll get 3 hypnosis audios and an additional bonus hypnosis audio for ‘Perfect Weight’.
The audio tracks are spoken by Bill Gladwell, a Professional Hypnotist, Hypnotist Trainer, and Author. The quality of these audios is very high.
The four audios are:
‘Confidence and Speed Demon Tennis’ for performance enhancement
‘Rapid Recovery’ for rejuvenating your body
‘Mind’s Eye’ for expanding your awareness
‘Perfect Weight’ for good physical health and weight
Free Bonus from Todd Scott
When you buy Renegade Mindset Techniques for Tennis you also get a free e-book by Todd Scott.
In my opinion this book is essential reading if you compete seriously but you don’t have a personal trainer. I say that because a few years ago I was lucky enough to work with Steffi Graf’s hitting partner’s personal trainer. He worked for her team while she was at the top of her game. This trainer showed me how the professional tennis players train in the gym, and, what I was shown by him is almost exactly what Todd Scott shows in the bonus e-book.
Todd Scott‘s tennis fitness suggestions are something I highly recommend serious aspiring players take a look at and incorporate into their physical training regime with the help of a fitness trainer.
In Summary
Stephen’s writing style is relaxed and easy to read. His sense of humor helped break down the resistance barrier which is automatic when new ‘out there’ ideas are presented to someone the first time so, the few jokes, some being about missing swimsuits and disco music amongst others, were great for doing just that.
If you are serious, and actually want to change your tennis results then this book is for you. The techniques will take some effort on your part to learn, but once you learn them, you’ll have tools for not only success on the tennis court, but in your personal life too.

Stephen has also written a Golf RMT book similar to this tennis book. I couldn’t find a video with him talking about RMT for tennis, but watch this YouTube video by him about RMT for golf…
